The children get a "Christmas Eve Box" that has new pjs, christmas dvds, sometimes a warm blanket or stuffed animal, socks, etc. Typically we do a seafood meal that night. We celebrate it on the 23rd of December as Man Cub's birthday is the 24th and we frame that day to be all about him. Anyone can get something to eat whenever they want and there is not a ton of extra work going into the meals for the day.Ĭhristmas eve is a pretty calm affair. Having cold-cuts and fruit available and left overs from the previous few days are also helpful. My favorite thing about our holiday meals is setting up several crock-pots on Christmas day so that people can eat something warm whenever they are hungry. For us no one has the extra "spoons" to do multiple big fancy sit down meals with the fine china and linens and pulling out all the stops. We feel that holidays should be enjoyable and not full of stress. Within the last few years we have made some positive changes on how we celebrate Christmas with my family. So we are looking at ways to change our celebrations throughout the year. But that doesn't really fit with our desire to have less things in our space. Many of these events have a focus on stuff, giving stuff, getting stuff etc. ![]() So clearly as we are purging and getting rid of stuff, the idea of holidays, birthdays, celebrations around the wheel of the year are brought into focus. We are setting things into groups of keep, sell on craigslist/facebook, donate, yard sale. Having less to take out and put away also gives us more time to spend as a family instead of being caught up cleaning all the time or feeling like we are constantly falling behind. Less clutter and a simpler life really helps everyone's mental health in my home. Sometimes it feels like we are drowning in stuff. One of my 2018 goals is to get rid of 75% of the things that we own.
